Animation & Blend Shapes

When a loaded model contains blend shapes (morph targets) or multiple cameras, Gantry surfaces controls for them in the inspector. These sections only appear when the model contains relevant data.

Blend shapes (also called morph targets) deform a mesh by interpolating between a base shape and one or more target shapes. They are commonly used for facial expressions, lip sync, and corrective shapes on character models.

The inspector shows a slider for each blend shape in the model. Drag a slider to apply that shape — a value of 0 means no deformation, 1 means full deformation. Multiple shapes can be combined by setting several sliders simultaneously.

The viewport updates in real time as you move sliders.

Click the Reset button to return all blend shape weights to zero in one step.

If the loaded asset includes one or more cameras (for example, a USD file exported from a DCC tool with cameras in the scene), a Camera dropdown appears in the inspector.

Choose a camera from the dropdown to view the scene through that camera’s frustum. This is useful for checking that your asset looks correct from the intended viewing angle — for example, a product shot composition or a character close-up framed by a DCC artist.

Click Reset Camera to return to Gantry’s default free-orbit viewport, discarding the active camera selection.

The RCP Compatibility section shows whether the model’s skeleton and animation data are compatible with Reality Composer Pro (RCP). This is relevant for rigged character assets intended for use in Apple immersive experiences.

The model’s skeleton is structured correctly and can be driven by animations in Reality Composer Pro.

The model has geometry but is not in a form RCP can animate. A Make RCP Ready button appears. Clicking it applies a surgical fix to the skeleton structure — remapping paths and adding the required metadata — so the model can accept animation in Reality Composer Pro.

If issues are detected that may affect animation playback in RCP, orange warning badges are shown with descriptions of each problem. Address these before exporting if the asset will be used in Reality Composer Pro.
